Pillow ends with tiger design
- Lacquerware with mother-of-pearl inlay
- Joseon dynasty, 19th–early 20th century
- Collection of National Museum of Korea
Pillow ends are attached to shape and decorate a pillow. Playful tigers and pine trees were detailed in lines using the mojobeop technique, while lightning-bolt design borders and pine leaf decorations were delicately cut with the kkeuneumjil technique. Tigers traditionally symbolize protection from evil spirits, offering wishes for restful sleep.
