The scepter was a ceremonial instrument used in the imperial court, symbolizing fortune and blessings, especially during the Qing dynasty. The top of the handle features a bat holding a traditional Chinese musical instrument qing in its mouth and a pair of catfish placed below. These symbols represent the Chinese virtue phrase ‘fuqingniannian,’ wishing each year to be filled with good fortune and prosperity.
